Can someone tell me how RA gigs work?

If I am unable to secure anything during OCI, there is one professor that I would really enjoy working for this summer. Can anyone tell me how that works? Do I contact the professor? Do they contact students they want? Thanks for any help.

Here, professors post jobs sometimes, or you can just email the professor. The advantage of the second approach is the professor won't have twenty people applying--it will just be you.

That said, I agree with the possum/axe thing.
