My guess (and this is purely speculation) is that schools may do a bit of lurking to see what's being said about their program, overall perception, etc.  I highly doubt that they search for each applicant that way.

A Google search or MySpace check might be believable, though.

When you google my name, the first person who comes up is a porn star. I would be really entertained to know that the adcomms did google me, especially if they got us confused...
