How do most law schools do their grading?

I go to McGeorge, and here a class will take up an entire year.

Therefore, I do not get a grade for any of my classes until the end of next semester.  However, I heard that some schools will divide a class into two courses (i.e. instead of having Civil Procedure, you have Civil Procedure I and Civil Procedure II).

How do most law schools operate?  I only ask because I am considering a transfer.

AppleDuck, you won't get a grade from the registrar's office, but you will get your exams back with their numeric scores and a copy of the grading scale.  You can easily figure out your midterm grades from there.

Even if you don't have grades or class rank after first semester, I don't think you will have a problem finding summer work.  Forget about biglaw, but there are plenty of other jobs that don't even require grades (I got offers from federal and state appellate judges without grades, coming from a T2).

Yeah, you can use those grades when you apply for internships.  That's what the CDO told me last year and that's what I did.

I doubt you can ethically make up grades based on scores....

You don't understand the system, which I think is stupid, but not unethical. 

Midterm grades are not "made up." The scores correspond to grades on the school's grading scale, which basically means that there are grades for midterm exams.  However, because the courses are year-long, there are no final grades until spring (based on the midterms plus final exams), which are the only grades the registrar's office uses for transcripts.
