2.9 at a high T2, is biglaw completely out of the question?

I don't necessarily want to work at a white shoe firm, but making at least 6 figures would be nice.  Is this possible after a 1-yr state clerkship?  I'm a 3L with mostly B's but God-willing this last year I will get some A's in there in classes like bankruptcy and commercial law.  Do firms really look at individual grades or do they consider the whole package?

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news here, but the answer is no. Most larger firms have the ability to predict their recruiting needs in advance. This is even more true for the firms that pay six figures. They conduct on-campus interviews at select law schools in the Fall - and fill their needs. A lot of people who work for these places are also 2L's that did summer internships there.

I don't think anyone really cares about what courses you take as a 3L, or even as a 2L. MAYBE a DA's Office would care...since I hear they like people to show an interest in Criminal Law, but even still, it's not going to land you a job per se.

Finally, the economy is DEEEEEP in the shitter. Government positions aren't as abundent. Firms are laying people off. Everything has gone to *&^%, bro. Here are some uplifting news items:

Smaller firms / places that are activly looking to fill positions are going to be your best bet. Focus on places near where you went to school or where you grew up (if different).

If you are able to indeed secure a clerkship, then a lot of it will come down to luck.

The law clerk I was working with this past summer was a T2 graduate whose first year grades were below the median. That notwithstanding, he managed to write onto law review and was able to get a clerkship.

Because of the type of work that he was doing (very niche), a V100 firm ended up giving him an offer.

But again, this REALLY comes down to luck. The clerk basically told me that that he was definitely not the norm.
