Mention child in personal statement? T14 hopeful
« on: November 25, 2008, 03:25:43 PM »
I was a single mom throughout undergrad and as a result, I don't have the ECs that others may have (with the exception of work experience). I am wondering whether mentioning that I am a single mom in my personal statement would hurt or help my chances of admission to a T14.

Any input is appreciated.

If you can show why it makes you a better potential law student (extra responsibilities you had to deal with and such), then you can bring it up. But don't just dump it into the PS for the sake of doing it.

FWIW, I have several classmates with children, and I'm sure at least some of them mentioned it in their  personal statements.
