Best Cell Phone Company in NYC / surrounding area ?

I ask because I need to get a cell phone for the city and want to get one with the best signal and coverage area in the NYC area (and long island too if possible).  Thanks.

Can't speak for Long Island, but in Manhattan and Queens, Sprint has worked pretty well for me. I have friends who have complained about it extensively, but my personal experience has always been fairly good. I hear great things about Verizon in the city, but have never used them.

verizon is probably the best, though i use sprint because their plans seem the most feasible for me.

avoid 347 and 646 numbers.  its 'uncool' (if youre into that kind of *&^%)

it really doesn't matter. in new york, there's 212, and there's everything else. i was so sad when i moved in with my gf in queens, because it meant giving up my 212 number and my address on broadway.
