illness as a PS topic?
« on: November 06, 2008, 11:03:57 AM »
How is using an illness as a PS topic looked upon? I have yet to start it, but I feel it might set me apart slightly from the pack. I mainly want to focus on the positive side of it and how it made me change but I'm afraid it might read like the illness is what changed me, and not my ambition to change. I am in no way using this topic to address bad freshman grades, etc.

i think its definitely a good personal statement, as long as you can put it in a positive light.

if you show it was a big challenge in your life that were able to overcome, that you learned from, put things in perspective, etc. then it sounds good to me. you just wouldn't want to write a "poor me" type essay.

basically anything you can spin into a positive result that made you a better person, all that happy stuff, should be good.

(this is what i have deduced from reading on forums and talking to my advisor)
