PPP broke over $1million last year, despite a down economy.

Notable Venture Capital practice.

Why pick them over a larger NYC firm? Opportunities? Depends what you want in a firm.

What about comments of them being a sweatshop with hours comparable to NYC Biglaw, but with significantly lower pay?

From what I can find, 4th years are barely making NYC market for 1st years.

The pay is less.

There wasn't much of a "sweatshop" feel around the office though. There is definitely no "facetime" requirement, which eases up the hours, fwiw.

I'm a 1L, CCN.  I sent them my application for an SA position, but they haven't gotten back to me.  I expect a ding, but I'll probably apply again next summmer.

I don't know how they're doing in this economy.  Why do you want to live in Roseland when NYC is so close?  It seems like a hard question.

I don't want to live in roseland, but there are plenty of decent suburbs in Jersey.  Living in Manhattan is expensive, though that is where I am heading.

They did contact me and the recruiting person seemed very nice, but they're done with hiring for this year.

They don't take many 1Ls at all, and I'm not sure what exactly their 1L strategy is (firms usually use 1L jobs to either try to grab someone they REALLY want early, or as marketing for their 2L program, or as part of a diversity program).

Definitely apply next year, especially if you have a connection to NJ.

My understanding is they've been hit pretty hard and are laying off a lot.

Even worse they rescinded offers to 3 or 4 of their incoming attorneys out of 15 or 18 total rather than deferring.

EDIT: Layoffs were 53, plus the rescinded offers to 3ls.
