Family Background Info?

Filling out the Emory app and there's a section that requests lots of parental information--name, email, address, where they went to school, where they work. This seems like unnecessary information to me, and a bit invasive. But it does not state that this is optional, either.

Names and level of education are one thing. Do I really have to provide the rest of that information? Does this seem unreasonable to anyone else, or am I unusually private/whiny?

Syracuse's financial aid app last year asked a lot of the same stuff. I just wrote down N/A in most places and said I didn't have access to my parents' info. They rolled with it.
