thoughts on .... WEIL, Gotshal & Manges

I just got an offer from them and so far I have heard mostly great things.

I wonder if the ability to make partner there is better than other vault(15) firms.
Also anyone have any experience with how they treat their associates, what it is like to work there, etc...

I am trying to compare with Cravath and Paul Weiss.

Congrats. I liked them on my callback. I doubt it's easier to make partner there. If anything, it's more difficult -- maybe much more -- because they only have one tier. I hear decent things about how much associates like being there, at least compared with Cravath. I don't know much about Paul Weiss.

My buddy summered at Weil DC and loved it.  I know it is different than Weil NY, but it seems like culture is pretty consistent across the firms.

Realistically, you shouldn't place much emphasis on ability to make partner.  It will be extremely difficult to make partner at any of your choices (I know Latham, who obviously isnt on your list, only has like a 2% rate).  Most people from the firms in that level, as I am sure you know, lateral down to be partner.

Congrats on the great options though!

My friend who worked at Weil NY this summer really liked it.  No idea re: ability to make partner, but it probably shouldn't be a major factor when considering BIGLAW firms.

i didn't like paul weiss on my callback, but i've heard good things about weil. weil has lock step bonuses i think until fourth or fifth year which should be nice to reduce competition for hours.
