"Compensation for the 2009 Summer Associates will be determined next spring."

same here. i'm guessing it wouldn't go down - but if it stays the same, i'd kind of like to know before, like, you know, October.

That's actually usually a good thing.  My compensation went up $200/wk from the previous year's. 

Was this just to match new market salary?  I can't see the $160k mark being bumped up any higher than it is by Spring, but I guess they want to leave their options open.

But if it's going to go up, why not just state that you'll get paid the same as first year associates are currently being paid, unless first year associate salaries go up, in which case your summer associate salary will go up the same amount?   That's basically how the firm I worked for last summer phrased it.
