Postponing is your best option if you don't feel 100% ready.

I think I might, but my debate is higher score vs early apps.

I guess you gotta go with higher score and have everything submitted before Dec. scores come out.

I am too.  I've been working through the PowerScore bibles since taking the test for the first time in June.  But I haven't assimilated the information yet and need more time to see the effectiveness of what I have learned on the timed prep tests.  I received confirmation last Friday that I had made the right decision.  During one of the workshops at the LSAC Law School Forum in Atlanta, a law school recruiter said that taking the LSAT "back-to-back" was not recommended because you didn't have enough time to understand what you did wrong.  She also said that taking the LSAT more than twice takes away credibility.  Whew!  I'm glad I postponed so that I can get the best score possible when I take the test for the last time in December.

is it possible, though, to have taken the test in october, and submit your application soon thereafter, indicating on it that you plan on re-taking in december?

Also, as for the trade off between early apps and higher score:  if you submit everything aside from LSAT score by, say, October, but delay submitting that until December, will the benefits of early application still apply?

This is my application plan. Everything into the admissions offices except for an LSAT score which will arrive in December. Takes you out of the running for early admission programs, but your file is still complete sooner than anyone who submits their full portfolio after Christmas. The sooner you are complete, the sooner they can make a decision.

i was going to postpone till december, too.  but, there is a possibility that i might be even more scattered in december because of finals.  i'm taking the powerscore virtual course though---and i think it has helped a lot.  i'm still freaking out though.
