obviously i've never been to law school, but i use Microsoft Office's OneNote which is an excellent note-taking program...it allows you to do all kinds of cool things.  matthies posted a thread somewhere around here talking about some of its features, and unless you have a tabletpc, i'd highly recommend it.

Your hand and a pencil.  Give it a shot, you'll probably see that you retain more and have well-focused notes while your classmates screw around on the internet.

Huh.  I wrote "d*ck around on the internet" the first time through and it posted "while your classmates male private part around on the internet."
Good job LSD.

I used Word with great success in law school.  Its not the software for taking notes that matters (or how "good" your outline is)....it's how well you do on exams :o

I used onenote and loved it. Many of my classmates used word and about half used pencil and paper.

I do agree with a previous poster, if you use a computer turn off the internet!

should i learn to use onenote before i start 1L in a couple weeks, or just use the more-familiar word?  onenote doesn't seem like it's much of a stretch from word, but still.

OneNote doesn't have much of a learning curve.  You could probably "learn to use it" in about 15 minutes, so I'd just open it up on your computer now, mess around a little and you should be good to go.  It seems so much easier to keep things organized on there instead of having a bunch of separate Word documents.
