What Are 1L Jobs That PAY? (Besides Firms.)

Certain DC Organizations?  PI?  Judicial externships?  What are some jobs that will help pay the bills, since the last thing I'll need will be more loans. 

Also, do I have to apply at Dec. 1st for these places?  What are the least and most competitive 1L jobs?

I'll be attending a "good" law school, if that matters to the naming.

just apply for a public interest fellowship your 1L summer and go to whatever government you can get/interests you.

Federal Judicial Center in DC (Fed gov't) pays in the low-to-mid teens per hour.

I worked for a state judge this last summer (my 1L summer).  I received federal work-study and the judge paid me.  Total compensation was about $6,000 for 9 weeks worth of work @ 40 hours per week.

I worked in the inhouse legal department of an investment bank.  I got paid 2500 biweekly. Inhouse positions especially at banks are difficult to land but if you do, it's a pretty sweet gig.
