General Question On HYS or T14
« on: July 14, 2008, 05:13:23 PM »
I have a buddy who is going to apply to law school next fall. He has a 3.9+ UGPA, URM, strong soft factors and one of the smart guys I know. I have helped him prep for the LSAT, and on the practice tests he flies through each section with very good accuracy. He is scoring 170-175 on the practice tests, when they are timed, in a live environment like a library. I don't see any reason he will not be able to score a 165-170 on an actual test, especially with another couple months to prep.

Anyway, he is not taking the test until October 4. 3.9 UGPA, URM, 170, he will be shooting for HYS. Is there enough time to get the results from the October 4 LSAT and put in decent applications, early enough in the cycle, to stand a legitimate shot at HYS?

he doesn't have a shot at any of those schools because he can't figure out how to use the internet for himself.

A little bitter over not being offered a scholarship by Cooley?

We don't want TLS's trolls - ours are more fun. :D

To answer your question - absolutely, IMHO.  Ideally, your friend would take two hours of his time now to register for LSDAS, submit his transcripts, and request letters of recommendation, since those things will take time to process.  Then, after the big 10/4 (heh), he can get his personal statement and diversity statement written.  If his apps are submitted by mid-November with a 170+, I expect that he will have an excellent cycle, including at least one of HYS.

That said, you might want to check in with the folks on the BLSD board:

They know a lot more about URM admissions.  Good luck!
