Do I need to purchase a suit?
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:17:56 PM »
 ???

I'll be attending a T10, and I'm wondering whether a suit is necessary.  when might I need one?  I have decent dress pants, but that's it.

Presumably, you'll be wanting to wear a suit to interviews.

Oh, you're going to a T10? Never mind. You now need a suit.

For much more on this topic, see a thread from earlier this spring when I was seeking input on a suit...lots of great advice:

Yes, you do. Buy a decent suit (at least a couple of hundred dollars for pants + jacket), it's a good investment. Get navy blue or charcoal grey. Absolutely no black or any weird colors. Get a few good dress shirts (again, conservative colors/patterns) if you don't already have them and a few good ties (same rules as shirts). Learn how to tie a half-windsor knot, it will serve you well.

No sarcasm, please.

It was extremely necessary.

You've started a few topics recently, all of which include "I'll be going to a Top 10" somewhere in the initial message or a follow-up message.  It's kind of annoying.  Just like all those other cases, your mentioning of top 10 here was completely irrelevant to the substance of your question, which is why JeNeSaisLaw's sarcasm was effective.  In fact, I strongly suspect even you recognize the unnecessary nature of your top 10 comment, given the fact that you interpreted JeNeSaisLaw's comment as sarcastic--If you actually believed that your going to a top 10 school rather than some other school truly affects whether you should get a suit, then you would have interpreted his comment as simply forgetting about which school you're going to and correcting his advice upon remembering.
