2L summer Federal Clerkship
« on: June 10, 2008, 02:11:46 PM »
After my first year of law school, I interned for a state court judge over the summer. This summer (after the second year), I landed an internship with a district court judge. Will this hurt my chances with law firms since I was not a summer associate during my law school career?

Yes. When you work for a firm as a 2L summer associate, they are basically saying, "So long as you don't do something to screw this up, we will hire you." Interning for a district judge is a good experience, but it doesn't get your foot in the door for any firms. You have to make your own opportunities from there.
