Best Laptops
« on: May 27, 2008, 03:52:31 PM »
    *  Thinkpad T61
    * Thinkpad T400
    * Thinkpad T500

These are one of the laptops I need to buy for school. Which one is the best and why? Which one would you choose to buy?

bump.

hey 1L's....what do you think of the PC v. Mac debate?

My feeling is that it makes sense to get used to using a pc, since the odds are good that those are the machines that we will be using after graduation.

thoughts?

 I'd agree with going to PC route. I know they've made strides, but a lot of campuses aren't really Apple friendly. And even if yours is, most businesses use PCS (anyone notice a lot of places buy Dell? Our courthouse only buys those). I've heard a lot of good things about Macs, but I like to stick with what everyone else is using so it's more comaptable for everyone involved.

I know that Macs can be booted with Windows too. Would a Mac with Windows be just as suitable as a PC? This way you could get the best of both worlds?

A Mac will have better basic hardware and with the ability to run Windows I think it's the way to go.  OS X for pleasure.  Vista for business.

I'd buy the T61 (mine is currently in Kentucky and should be here in two days...I love UPS tracking).

They're a great price right now at lenovo.com and you can insist that they lower the price even more (I had a lot of success doing this).

How did you get them to lower the price. I was just about to order the T61 with just the education discount, how much more did you get off?

I then found out that my mom gets a realtor discount, so I'm battling with them right now to get that applied to my discounted price. As for how I got my discount, I just kept talking to different people and told them that I saw a better price earlier in the day (which I had) and that it changed during my session.

I expect the new price to be ~$1400 before tax once they get back to me (got an update email that they were working on it last night).
