Recommended reading list for soon-2-be L1

Can anyone recommend books to help me get a jump start for school.  Any good books on taking exams or briefs?

Anything but law stuff - go read a novel. Seriously, you won't have time to do it for the next three years.

One exception: Law School Confidential - it's a handbook that I read two weeks before orientation began. It helps to be aware of what you should be doing and what to expect with regard to study, your job search, getting on journals, etc. for the entire three years of school. The one thing that I've learned in the last three years is that being successful is possible when you're in the right place/right time, even if you're not top 5%. This book helped keep me on track.

Bill, I just finished reading that book, and WOW!

I loved it, by which I mean I am pissed off and very disturbed.  I went into it carte blanche as well, never saw the movie, and had no idea of the outcome, believe it or not. 

I'm 0L, but I'd think that book at least gives some good idea about civil procedure

The book that really helped me on exams was Getting to Maybe, but I read it after school had started so I'm not sure if it would be of any value beforehand. Some people like it, others don't.  Don't bother reading any content oriented material.

A Place in the Sun  (Torts - special duty)
The Paper Chase  (General about LS)
Anatomy of a Murder  (Insanity defense)
The Sweet Hereafter  (Torts - res ipsa)

I read a few things in the summer before 1L.  It was all a complete waste of time.  Drink as much beer and party as hard as you can before you get into law school.  Once you get in, you will have trouble finding time to do such things.
