Which law dictionary do you recommend?

I was told that it would be quite useful to purchase a law dictionary for school. Any recommendations?

Why so? There are a numerous law dictionaries, and they are all so overpriced!!

There are a bunch, but Black's is really the only viable one - most common, most respected.

I prefer my print one though.

Hmm, looks like other law students do not agree with me here.  I was thinking buy any one (thus the cheapest), as long as they have the definition for a word you are fine.  After all you are usually just looking up the word for your own knowledge.  However, apparently a lot of people take their legal dictionaries pretty seriously.

dont buy a dictionary.  that is such a waste of money.  I never needed one.  If you cannot understand something, google it or look it up on westlaw of say f-that and dont worry about it.

I haven't cracked open either of my legal dictionaries (both gifts), and I haven't yet seen any classmate use a legal dictionary. I'm an idiot, but I think my classmates are smart, so follow their lead.

I concur, don't buy a dictionary!  There are plenty of free resources online, and you will have a ton of better things to spend your money on.  I bought a dictionary, and used it during the first week or two of school when everything was new to me... and then never touched it again.  Hell, if you want to ignore everyone's advice, I've got a barely used Black's Law Dictionary to sell you...
