possible as URM?

I have been waitlisted at NYU with a 163 (my gpa is very close to their 75%)
but I was rejected at cornell .... etc.
I've checked LSN, and no one lower than 165 have been WL'ed, except the URM.
is it possible that they consider me some sort of URM? (i am asian-hispanic mixed, and I selected "other" on the form)

If you wrote in that you were part Hispanic, then probably. With a really high GPA and a URM bump it is certainly conceivable that you would make the waitlist at NYU.  Cornell probably either decided you didn't count as URM and rejected you because of your low LSAT, or figured that a URM with your GPA would get accepted to one of the higher ranked GPA-whore schools (Virgina, UM, Boalt) and hurt their yield.

but the fact was I was rejected at boalt, michigan ....

I am also WL'ed at Duke, and on hold at NU.

(I have a graduate degree from oxbridge, but I don't think that counts)

I have no idea then :) Maybe some schools counted you as URM and some didn't.. or maybe it is just a fluke. It sounds like some of them definitely DID count you though.. I can't imagine anybody making WL at any of those schools with a 163 if they weren't URM

hmmmm ...
I have seen people with low 160s getting WL'ed at Duke, though.

Do you think URM got a higher chance of getting off the WL?

Being classified as a URM will only help you.

Did you write a diversity statement?  You may want to highlight your diversity via a LOCI and DS to get off that waitlist. Good luck! I'm not attending.

Mich and Berkley are, I believe legally required, to not use AA.  At the other schools, you're probably considered a URM, and they are probably waiting to see if other URM's they offered spots to accept or don't before deciding on you. Def. send them LOI and make it known you're interested.

I'm really not all that informed on the law as it stands, I just remember when I was applying last year there had been a newer case which it seemed to keep the school from taking race into account at all. Was that overturned? I got an e-mail from Mich at the time about it--that they'd be reviewing the applications race-blind. But like I said, what I know about it I know from these boards about a year and a half ago. 

You seem more knowledgeable about this, so what did the case at the end of 2006 essentially decide?
