I hate to rekindle an old debate. But I really don't know enough about either of these animals to make an informed choice. To complicate things further, all of my research has convinced me that they aren't that different. I will be petting both soon, but any advice/information (other than, "you should pet them") would be helpful.

I'm confused...are you going to be getting one or the other? Go with a cat, they're lower maintenance. Although your LS schedule might be flexible enough to take care of a dog.

My cat hangs out quietly next to me while I read...and I don't have to let it outside to go to the bathroom.  I vote kitty!

ummm is this even a fair contest? dogs OWN cats. a dog is man's BEST friend... cats are pathetic. too full of themselves and not good with strangers. dogs all the way!
