Whittier LS on Probation by ABA

Whittier LS on Probation by ABA

FYI

Two days ago, Whittier Law School was put on probation by the ABA. I'm not exactly sure I know what this means, but I'd certainly look into it if Whittier's one of your serious choices.

(I'm sad to report this, because at one point, I really liked the school.)

That's an 11th hour blow to the incoming 1Ls.

I saw that too. I find it hard to believe that Whittier will lose its accredidation by the ABA, considering the school has been around for a very long time, and has always had a decent rep. I'm not sure what got them on probation to begin with.

Apparently, there's a list of things that the ABA wants to see a school maintaining or making progress on and Whittier hasn't been meeting the criteria. They've been given two years to shape up. With the ABA, it's very nebulous so you don't really know what they're going to decide of your fate.

This doesn't necessarily mean bad things for Whittier students. With accreditaion at risk, Whittier will have to do a lot more for its 1Ls and make big strides and improvements. Until the final call is in from the ABA, I think Whittier students will have a far better experience than they would have in the past.

I don't know much about ABA probation, but lots of institutions are put on probation by regional accrediting agencies every year.

Not most law schools, though.
