Hye Bonkers, you have a new one? Want me to read that one as well?
Was that comment on terrible PS directed towards me?

Haha... no... yours was pretty good.

I should probably shut up, too many years in writing groups has led me to have high expectations when somebody asks me to read something that is supposedly important to them. When you know you are going to be torn to shreds by16 people in a public setting, you tend to try to make something as good as you can before you let other people read it. That concept is apparently not operative when it comes to law school personal statements.

I guess so, but still. Depends on what you think a rough draft is.

I believe the word we are quibbling over is "writing."

Listen to bonkers on this one...I read his PS, and I have to say it was EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, you actually liked mine? I think you are the first person to read the new one, maybe it is better than the old one that everyone hates.

I didn't hate it.

Mine, on the other hand... Sigh.  Personal writing just ain't my strong suit.  If only I could send them a 10 page essay comparing different political theorists.  ;)

I agree... this kind of writing is not my favorite. "Pulling out one's own teeth" is probably a good analogy.

Ok, need an opinion.

Which is correct?

Neither of my parents were/was. I say was because of my parents is a prepositional phrase, but a lot of people that have reviewed my PS say that it should be were. It is Neither was if you took out prep phrase, since they don't count in subject/verb agreement.
Please answer this question, even though it seems stupid.

I am going to agree with all the people telling you to change it to were.
