Why do some people say "write the LSAT"...

...instead of "take the LSAT?"  Is this cultural?  I've noticed that a few times on this board.

They are not Americans. (Or at the very least, not native speakers of American English.)

In both Canadian and British English, you "write" exams; you don't "take" them.

(It may be the same in Australian/NZ English as well, but I'm not sure....)

To say I am 'writing' the LSAT is more accurate of what is being done than 'taking' it. But it is true that in Canada, and Britain and the commonwealth, we do tend to stick to the Queen's English.

OK you guys are pushing it. That's just a little too anal even for this board, and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

To me, "write" the LSAT sounds like you are creating the exam. "Take" the LSAT, to a dirty foreigner, probably sounds like I am stealing it.

"Do" the LSAT might make more sense, but it sounds weird to everyone.

Considering the "I have a 4.0 from Harvard and a 179 and worked with Mother Theresa in calcutta - what are my chances" threads, this is nothing!
