« on: July 26, 2005, 12:33:11 PM »
this has nothing to do with law school, but I was wondering, outside of law school admissions etc. What is a minority? Is it ONLY black, hispanic, american indian? Or, are others included like Arab, Asian, italian, Greek, Irish, etc? ANY others? I am just wondering for purposes of filling out a form for ,y job interview. Does anybody know?

minority would be a relative term....

here non-whites are minorities....

in Africa whites are minorities...

in Asia whites and blacks are minorities...

so obviously there is no definite term for minority, just look around, whoever is not the majority...

but yeah its a good question whether Italian and other southern, maybe darker Europeans would be considered minority or not. They are whites, but then if we are going to go beyond the many times overbroad and innacurate descriptions of white, black, hispanic, and such and just look at regional ethnicities then I would guess most southern and eastern europeans will be part of an ethnic minority. I assume more of the Americans are from England, France, Germany, and that northern area than eastern or southern Europe...

That is what I think as well.
I don't think that Southern Europeans, specifically Italian and Greek are white though.

here in america, if you are non-white you are a minority.

if you are non-WASP, you are also, in some circles, considered a minority.
