How much tuition does financial aid cover ?
« on: July 25, 2005, 02:47:42 PM »
I was just looking and analyzing the cost of Law school. Most are around 30K a year. This lead me to wonder what percentage of the cost does the maximum amount of government assistance cover. Does anyone know how this works? What amount a person on average would a person is left to cover?

Well the max federal aid you can get each year is $18.5K - so the rest would be loans, scholarships, or out of pocket.

18.5 is the max for stafford loans, and you can also qualify for perkins loans from the government.  i think the max on those is 5 or 6 per year.  after that you gots to take private loans out

We are pretty much assured the $18.5 right, as long as we are in good standing and everything? Because as long as I have that, I will be okay. So far, I am less than entralled by the interest rates I am being offered on my private loan (and I have good credit, it's weird), but as long as I get the $18.5 I only need a little more so it doesn't matter as much.
