For loans for living expenses, when does your school issue disbursement checks?

School starts for me on the 18th, and financial aid is disbursed on the 17th. You can have it automatically desposited into your checking/savings account, or you can pick up a check that day at school. I think this is fairly standard.

THAT is absolutely ridiculous! I'm sorry about that - I'd say just use a credit card and pay it off when you get your $$. You get your bulk semester living funds all at once, which is nice.

That's strange, they must have had problems with people collecting $$ and then withdrawing, but you are still responsbile for paying the money back, so they shouldn't punish everyone for a few people's problems.

Many credit cards issue checks to you if you ask, that would be one way to get around the no credit card deal with the land lord.

That's terrible what they are doing at your school. At my school, loans are disbursed a week before classes start either by direct deposit ot by check

The intere4st rate is usually insane with these, so just make sure to pay it off ASAP.

Yeah, that's what I'm planning to do...  But I still have to figure out how to pay both August and September rent.  (The landlord won't take a credit card.)  Maybe I'll get a cash advance on my credit card for rent.

This is insane.

God, that sucks!! Scary all the debt we are signing up for, isn't it?
