real LSAT much lower than practice exams, why?
« on: July 13, 2005, 10:38:56 PM »
Hey, i've heard of other cases similar to my own and am wondering if anyone has any advice/explanation about this phenomenon.

I took about 8 practice tests, used real LSATs from past administrations, didn't cheat, and was scoring about the same consistently. My real LSAT score was 10 points lower.

I can't think of any explanation except nerves. Anyone have any ideas?

Were you strictly timing yourself when you took the practice tests?

FWIW, I also attribute my lower score on the actual test to nerves.

The experimental section doesn't help much either.

I was nervous, no doubt, but the experience was more surreal than anything else. I kept thinking "I am taking the real LSAT now" throughout the exam.

yeah me too, i remember telling myself "this is it" about 100 times.  and when i finished a section early, i would start to stretch back and relax just for a second before i thought to myself "wtf am i doing?" and then i would go back and recheck questions.  i am sure glad its over....

Strangely enough, I got about 10 points higher on the real deal than I did on my practice tests so I don't put much stock in them.

And I threw up just before I took the exam - anyone else that pathetic?

My actual was lower than my most recent practice. I attribute it to strategy atrophy. In february, my nerves got the best of me...so I cancelled. In june, I had a no worry attitude but had been out of practice.

Either way, a ten point decrease is an outlier IMO, so retake.
