Does a 163 mean that the Top Schools are out of the Question?

My GPA is 3.7 from and undergrad Ivy league school. Are the top schools (NYU, PENN Law, Columbia, etc..) out of the question.

Thanks.

Need more data. Are you a URM?  Special extras?

If you're not a URM and have no extras or anything then I would say yea probably they are.  But you could still apply EA to some of them and get lucky!

If you are not a URM, don't waste your application fee. You wont get lucky, I had the same thought. You need to shift your focus to the 20-30 range of schools, or retake the test and try to get into the high 160s (averaged out) to have a shot.

i don't think a URM could touch the top 14 w/ a 163--top 20, sure.

LSN says otherwise.

NYU is definitely do-able, the other ones, not so much...it really depends on how interesting you are as a person.  If ur just another white dude, you might wanna shift your focus or re-take the test...but u can def. get into a great school with those numbers.

NYU non-URM with a 163/3.7 = "doable"? Not at all.

Look around on LSN.  There are LOTS of URM's that get into top 14 schools with numbers that low or even lower.  I have seen at least a couple dozen people with 161-163 that got in to SEVERAL T14 schools with average GPA's (3.53-3.7 range).

You cannot overestimate the advantage that is being a URM.

NYU and Columbia are probably out of the picture. I'd say reach for Gtown, USC, UCLA, etc. Probably don't want to bother with Northwestern if you're right out of ugrad.
