Texas is not the South proper. Texas is its own country.
It is like Arkansas, Kentucky and Virginia. Some areas are, but some are not. Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi are the 'meat' of the South.
This thread reminds me...I have to deal with a recalcitrant Marylander at work, with whom I constantly get into debates about whether or not Maryland is, indeed, a "Southern state". Being from Texas, and having lived throughout the "Real South", it seems intuitive that Maryland is obviously not the friggin' South, but the geographic evidence is not on my side.If someone were to insist on the same ridiculous proposition in your presence, how would you respond?
