How are you paying for summer expenses and health insurance?

In my law school financial aid packet it shows that the budget is for 9 months out of the year, and doesn't include the mandatory health insurance... what exactly are we suppose to do for summer rent, etc?  Not really a good chance that I will be landing a paying 1L job...

I think the assumption is that you should land a paying job your 1L (unless your taking classes), even if you don't land a paying job (legal job that is).  Some schools (Michigan for example) have funds for summer students taking non-paying legal jobs.

Nights and weekends working @ Starbucks, most likely (after your unpaid legal position during the day).

If you are enrolled in school during the summer, you will receive a summer financial aid budget.  If not, I guess they expect you to get a job or move home.

They expect you to get a job for living expenses.

For health insurance, your school policy should last for the year.  Some schools will let you add the yearly cost of insurance (not 9 months) to your "budget" if you pay for the year in 1 lump sum by filing out a form.  Not every school does this, but you should call yours and ask about this.  In "driving" cities, they may also let you add the yearly lump payment for car insurance too.
