Fun Summer Reads

Hey guys,

I just finished reading one of the greatest fun reads ever. It was a fiction novel by Kimbera Lawson Roby called A Taste of Reality. It discussed two contraversial topics in a very intriguing manner: discrimination in a predominately white firm and interracial dating on numerous counts.

I haven't read any fun, easy books for over a year, and now I'm extremely eager to get my hands on something else now that I finished this one in less than 24 hours. Does anyone have any fav novels that'll help my brain to continue to unwind post final exams/graduation?  If so, post 'em here!

I wouldn't call any of the stuff I'm reading right now fun.  Maybe in a few weeks I'll have more to contribute...  Give it some time, I'm sure your thread will pick up a bit when everyone's done with finals

I stopped reading for pleasure years ago...all I have time to read aside from work documents are magazines. I still have Bill and Hillary Clinton's respective biographies to finish up this summer. 

I did recently read "Trophy Man" that was a good book. I'm itching to read the new Dr. Cornel West book.

i read allllll the time. and since i'm not in school, i've had a good excuse. my books aren't that fun though, but they are fiction.

the last book I read was Cane River. It was excellent, but not exactly fun since its about slavery. i recently read Gotham Diaries by Tonya Lewis Lee and that was good, but it is like a few months old now, so maybe you read it already. I was going to take out one of Pearl Cleage's novels, Babylon Sisters, i think that'll be a good book. also my friend loves the devil wears prada, she said its hilarious. Have you read any Edwidge Danticat? I love her novels and I look forward to re-reading them over the summer. I think Krik? Krak! is my favorite book of short stories after Toni Cade Bambara's. And I haven't read The Dew Breaker, so I am now pretty motivated to order it from half.com. SWB--WHY DID YOU CREATE THIS THREAD?? LOL! Can you tell I concentrated in literature?  Also, I think that if you haven't read Just Above my head, by James Baldwin (i don't think its as well-known as some of his others) then you should read it, esp. if you have siblings and are the oldest. that book is like 500 pages, but I think I stopped every 30 pages and took a break, it was that deep.

Two good books that I read recently were Memoirs of a Geisha and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.  I highly recommend both.

Another good read is Devil in the White City.

I'm in the middle of Memoirs of a Geisha right now and I love it.  Also good - A Fine Balance and The Kiterunner. 

I think I'm going to read Devil in the White City next!  I've heard such good things about it.

Positively Fifth Street by James MacManus is positively great!  It's about the world series of poker and how this journalist covering the world series managed to win himself a seat at the final table.  Really good.
