Would you be willing to spend $137k on a Boalt education (+ living expenses etc)?  Why or why not?  Would you have to take out loans?

$137 PLUS living expenses? Tuition ad fees are only $23K per year in-state (which everyone can get after 1st year). I'm planning on the budget will be about $120, living expenses included. This makes it about $30K less than most other schools in it's class.

Sorry, I meant including living expenses, not "+".  I arrived at 137 by
$34 tuition first year
$46 second and 3rd year combined
$57 living expenses all three years ($19 each year)

I think that most other schools in its class have a lot more scholarship money to give out though, making them as cheap or cheaper than Berkeley.  That's been my experience and it's what Boalt told me at least.

Also watch out for tuition increases during the 2nd and 3rd years. The UC law schools faced severe tuition/fee increases the past couple of years (100% increase over 2 years); future increases shouldn't be that extreme, but don't be surprised with increases of ~$2k/year.

I just wanted to hopefully show people that dreams do come true.

Last year, I was waitlisted at Berkeley, my number one choice.   Instead, I went to Emory, worked hard and applied to transfer.  Well, yesterday, I got a call from Boalt.  I'm in.

If you are set on a school, don't let either your current GPA or LSAT break you down, because dreams *do* come true.  Best of luck to everyone!

I don't know why you'd pay $19/year for living expenses in Berkeley. It's not that expensive unless you like expensive things. If you want to save money, avoid university housing, which is easily 2x the price of an apartment (with or without a roomate).

Tuition fee increases from the past few years will not happen for the next 3-4 years due to Cali's sudden budget surplus. That and the UC getting sued for raising graduate tuition costs when it promised fixed tuition to students.

I can't share rank (due to people in my school getting upset about my disclosure of my grades).  But I'll be glad to tell anyone that messages me.
