Waitlistsed then rejected?

I was sent a letter stating that I had been placed on a waitlist at Seton Hall.  I sent back the letter stating that I wished to remain on the waitlist and called to make sure that they had recieved it.  Then I sent a letter stating that Seton Hall was my first choice and sent in a additonal letter of recommendation.  I also had a Seton Hall alumni call and recommend that they take me off the waitlist.

Today I got a letter stating that they had reviewed my application and that I had been denied admission but it didn't mention anything about the waitlist, nor did it say that I was not offered admisssion on the waitlist.  Has anyone else been waitlisted and then rejected this early?  Please let me know, I am so confused!

Well its hard to tell without seeing the exact letter, but it sounds like you did get rejected. Many students do get rejected off the waitlist especially if they waitlisted a lot of students and the majority of the students accepted the waitlist offer.

Don't you think they would at least mention that I wasn't admitted off the waitlist, rather than saying that they reviewed my file and denied me admission? 
I guess I should just call the admissions office and ask them about this.  Or, do you think it would be better to just go into the admissions office and discuss it is person? 
Has anyone else been rejected off the Seton Hall waitlist?

You're thinking that they only reviewed your file once right?  Without seeing the fact that you were on the waitlist?  This is not the case.  I'm sorry, but I don't think you should bother asking them about it...the committee isn't going to change its mind.  This is what happened...they reviewed your file the first time and decided to put you on the waitlist, then reviewed your file a second time, and decided not to admit you off the list...so you're rejected.  I hope you get admitted to another one of your law schools!  Good luck

Yup, it totally can happen now.  I was rejected from George Mason's waitlist over a month ago.  I wouldn't bother calling them if your only question is to find out what happened.  I don't think my rejection letter referenced my being initially placed on the wl either.  You could contact them if you want to either appeal the decision (unlikely that they will decide yes now this late in the process).  Alternatively, if you don't mind waiting one more year it would be very effective to begin establishing a relationship with the adcom now for admission for admission to next years class.

I am sorry to hear that you've had to go through this situation with Seton Hall. I was waitlisted there too (apparently a 3.78 for their median 3.14 gpa isnt good enough). When I have spoken to them about the waitlist, they have seemed pretty disorganized and vague. It actually took them three times to send me my waitlist letter before I received it (and I live 20 minutes from the school), and then they accepted me into their evening division, which I had specifically stated that I did not want to be in. I think their whole process has been very bizarre. If you think it will help your situation, then call them; but it does seem that once schools make their decisions, that is it.

I agree that they seem pretty disorganized as well.  I think I may actually just go into the school and talk with them face to face.  When I applied to Seton Hall I applied and was waitlisted through their disadvantage applicant review.  I am wondering if they just then put me into the mix with everyone else, which if that is the case, why even bother having a disadvantaged screeing in the first place.  I am just confused by their process and think a face to face meeting will better enable me to get the answers I am looking for.  Let me know if you think this is a good move...

I think it is a good move to try to talk to them face-to-face because they cannot avoid your questions then. Also, they can place your face with the application. I actually did this with Seton Hall last week. I went for a tour with an admissions counselor, and then afterwards I drilled her with questions about my waitlist. She didn't give me too many answers, though. She basically just kept saying that they could not predict anything, but I think I made my impression of how dissatisfied I was with their process and how ridiculous I thought it was that I was on their waitlist. I would say give it a try.
