Ave Maria: Letter -- May 2, 2005 -- ABA Full Accreditation

Just thought I'd pass on the information in case you hadn't heard.

In a May 2, 2005 letter from Ave Maria's Michael O. Kenney (Associate Dean for External Affairs)

I am pleased to inform you that the Accreditation Committee of the American Bar Association voted to recommend full accreditation for Ave Maria School of Law.  The matter now moves to the Council of the ABA Section of Legal Education, which has the authority to make the decision.  The Council will consider the Accreditation Committee’s favorable recommendation at the June 17, 2005 meeting.  The Council's decision will then be presented to the ABA House of Delegates at the ABA's annual meeting in August for ratification.

No, as of now I'm going to go to Cleveland-Marshall.  There is no way I can/will get Ave Maria $500 in the next few days.  But I must say less than 30 day turn around was nice.

I think for those comfortable with Ave Maria's orientation, it is probably an excellent option.  The students and faculty appear very strong, and I'm sure it will only get stronger.  I predict that it will place within the 3rd tier very quickly, and perhaps right off, and will probably be within the 2nd tier within a decade, if not sooner. 

It simply has a ton of support behind it, financial and otherwise.  If you can get in now vs. most 3rd/4th tier schools, I'd certainly consider it.

Well, I certainly would have no problem closing most of the 4th tier down, but AM at least appears to be serious about academic quality. 

All in all, it would probably be nice if we had fewer schools, but with higher standards.

But then people would complain about not being able to strive for their dream and it's just SO hard to get into law school and why won't anyone give them a chance.

People already complain about this, but closing down 30-40 schools would make it even worse.

This truly complicates matters, but in a good way.
