American V. Tulane, I need some help here..

My thoughts on this matter...from the California perspective, neither school has a significantly stronger rep.  If anything I would think that American's rep is stronger.  If you already know that you do not want to end up in Louisiana or New Orleans, and that 80% of law school grads get their first job in the city they go to law school in, it seems silly to me to spend 3 yrs. of your life in New Orleans.

DC seems like a much more dynamic city to me than New Orleans (don't get me wrong my mom's from the south...Morgan City, LA all the way, but Louisiana is pretty back woods at the end of the day).

I'm from the Midwest, and never heard about American until I started looking at law schools.  Tulane has a more familiar name generally, I think -- it was in The Pelican Brief, after all.  Inclusion in a Grisham novel is usually a sign of a true national school.  Harvard, Michigan, Virginia, Tulane, Vandy, etc....

Look at it this way, beyond the obvious HYS... most law schools benefit from the visibility of their undergraduate programs. Tulane is up there, in the top 50 -- in terms of undergraduate... American is a little more under the radar, down in the 80's.

Also heres a good observation for you. "National" perception of schools may be driven by their prominence on an NCAA sports level. Look at Tulane, and their football team... American, nothing.

I thought Tulane's football team sucked.  They're not even D1A.  I hear they have the best baseball team around, but noone watches college baseball.

One of my southern friends told me that they call it 'Jewlane' bc of how many jewish kids go there, i never would have thought that. is this true?

woah...thats true? yeah i just looked and we get jewish holidays off but nothing for easter. is there any reason why there are so many jewish kids that go there i mean its not like its Yeshiva.

Tons of newyork northeasterners and apparently they were one of only a handful of schools that allowed jews to attend back in the day.. (or something like that)... i think...
