govt. loans for laptops/ loan disbursements
« on: April 27, 2005, 05:21:51 AM »
I heard that the government provides a loan for students who need to purchase a laptop. Is this true? If it is, how would I go about obtaining this sort of student loan?

Also, which banks/lenders provide private student loans that are disbursed before the start of classes? I need to pay for expenses related to housing prior to the start of classes. Is there an institution that could help me bridge this gap until I receive my loan money in September?

I don't think the government provides a computer/technology loan. Unless your student budget does not all of your stafford eligibility, then you can have your budget expanded to use the excess stafford $

Thanks. I heard about this and I thought it was too good to be true.

However, that Mathew Lesko book might be the source of this claim. You know the crazy guy with the glasses that says, "get government money to pay your bills." I don't have it around in order to verify if it is true or not. I might have to make a trip to the library.

Lol. How did you know? Unfortunately, I am an admitted insomniac. And that commercial comes on too many times to ignore.

I don't know for sure, but no financial aid office that I know of has ever mentioned such a loan, just that they can increase the student budget/loan eligibility for a computer.
