Loyola New-Orleans anyone?

I'm also looking to live around Audobon Park.  Like you, Devil Dawg, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all the good places wont already be rented out when I go to look in a couple weeks. From what I hear, though, there are still plenty of places around.
I'm looking for a July 15 move, which seems like forever away!

devildawg, there is no reason you would have to live around the lake, and don't just limit yourself to the immediate areas surrounding audobon park.  the entire uptown area -- the lower garden district, the garden district, the university area, the irish channel, carrollton, etc. -- is a great places to live, and everything is located within a five minute drive of the school.  and while many students live in uptown, there is always a strong supply of housing, so finding a place will not be a problem.  i would actually encourage you to look a bit farther than just the immediate university areas, because a lot of the housing is designated especially for students, thus many of the landlords charge more for properties that are not as well kept as some you may find in the garden district or in the channel.

It appears that I wont be living in the apartment that I found.  Now Im back to looking...

We'll be going to look for an apartment in a couple of weeks. I'd really prefer to live around Audobon Park (like every other student in New Orleans), but if I have to I'll live around the lake. (a lot of the area's I looked at around the lake are decent, but they really don't have a New Orleans feel to them, just a "new" feel if you can understand what I'm saying) Either way will work with me, but I really want to be near the trolley line so I can booze it up ocassionally and not have to worry about paying ridiculous cab fares. I just need to hurry up and get down there and find a place before all of the good places are available.

When is everyone else looking to move to N.O.? I'm looking to burn my bridges at the office near the end of July and be in New Orleans on August 1st. (Coincidentally when my current apartment lease expires)

Also, where is everyone moving from? I'm moving from Atlanta, so it won't be that ridiculous of a move. (except it will probably take like 9 or 10 hours in a huge U-haul van) Is anyone moving from like Alaska or anything?

well, I found a place!  it's a nice 1 bdrm on Magazine, about a mile and a half from Loyola.  it's not too expensive, though.  I found it off craigslist, in case anybody is wondering.  I'm probably moving in at the end of July.  the lease starts June 1st, unfortunately.  I was told by several people to NOT wait to find a place that starts in August.  they said either the places will be shitholes or too expensive.  take that with a grain of salt if you want to, though.

how does everyone feel about getting together for a drink after we're all settled in?

I had heard the same thing about waiting until August.  I plan on going down next weekend so hopefully I'll find a nice place.  I'm really jealous that you already found one!

I finally found a place.  It's a nice two bedroom on Nashville at Magazine about a mile and a half from school.  There were tons in the area if anyone is still looking!

I'll be moving down to New Orleans on August 1st so if anyone from this board wants to put a  name (and face) to the poster just shoot me an IM.

Well, I'm all moved in in N.O.  I drove a 20 foot truck from Wisconsin to New Orleans without cruise control and nothing more than a radio.  So that sucked horribly, but it's all over now.  My place is nice, the neighborhood seems friendly enough (any are on Magazine is pretty nice). 

I'll just be chilling from now until orientation begins, and I don't know many people in the area, so if anyone wants to get together, PM me and we can exchange info.  Otherwise, how does everyone feel about setting up a night to get together at a bar Uptown somewhere?  Some time next week perhaps?  Weekday?  Weekend?  What works best for everyone?  I'm thinking the Balcony or St. Joes would be good for this.  I've been to a few other bars, but those are 2 that I've liked thus far.

i've been working here for 2 years and decided to throw a last minute app to loyno instead of going out of state for a FT program. 

for those that are moving here.  it should be the best 3 (or 4) years of your life.  this town is amazing.  if anyone needs any advice as to what to do, where to eat, etc.  just pm me.

I'm doing the part time program, but have NO plans to work at all. I'm just going to go to school and live off of student loans.
