Okay, for all the people who think TGIF sucks ass, please tell me a restaurant you like better.  The only thing that bugs me about TGIF is that it is usually noisy, and I am unimpressed by all the faux junk they have taped, nailed, and glued on all the walls.  They try to make the place look like an old attic, it seems.  So, that phony "character" they try to add does suck ass, but I think the food is great.

Are you talking any restaurant or just national chains?

Seattle area:
Ezell's Fried Chicken (beloved of Oprah Winfrey)
The People's Pub (Northern German food)
Ms. Helen's Soul Food
Linda's
D|ck's Drive-In
Bimbo's Bitchin' Burrito Kitchen

National(aka outside of the Pac NW):
Varsity Drive-In (Atlanta)
Waffle House
Popeye's Fried Chicken
White Castle
In-N-Out Burger
Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles (on Pico Blvd, L.A.)

I like TGIF for dinner, but their drink prices are ridiculous.

Aren't they everywhere?

I thought every college town had some bars that had decent prices.  Plus, Mexican restaurants are usually not bad.

And the Varsity in Atlanta sucks.  It survives on name alone.

You maybe right. A GF from Auburn took me there once. We were drunk. Bud and Georgia heat followed with chili dogs and a frosted orange. Yikes.

Do you have chicken and waffles in the South or is that a Southern California thing?

I can gaurentee that we eat more fried chicken and BBQ chicken in the south than anywhere else in the country.  I don't know about chicken and waffles.

So what is the definitive fried chicken place in the South?
In Seattle we had Ezell's which blew the Colonel's out of the water.

In NorCal we have Church's, Popeye's, and the Colonel.

I'd go with Ezell's for the chicken and cobbler, Popeye's for the sides and catfish, and the Colonel for the taters n gravy.

Church's, KFC, Popeye's are all here.  You also got Lee's and Chick Fil A, but Chick Fil A doesn't serve fried chicken, just chicken fingers and sandwiches and stuff.  Down south, it is the independent soul food places that do it best.

I could definately do without honky tonks while I am in law school, I don't see myself going out a lot.

so then there won't be much of change.
