Are there office furniture surplus stores in/around Coral Gables?  I was looking for a place to buy a couple of office type chairs and a desk.

A lot of the ones I've seen are kind of upscale, with fancy showrooms and all.  Coral Gables is a pretty ritzy community.  I looked in the phone book and there is a place called Office Furniture Warehouse located downtown (305-266-4447), but I don't know what they have.  About 10 minutes south of campus on US-1 is a place called Dadeland Station, and there is a Best Buy, Target, a furniture store (Thomasville I think), a Sports Authority, and a Michael's.  Pretty much everyone I know has either bought cheap furniture at Target, or has bought used stuff from all the ads people have around campus.  In the UC there is a big bulletin board and there are always tons of people selling old furniture, so that would be a good place to check when you get down here.

Seriously, go to Costco.  There is one at 8300 Park Blvd (near the intersection of 836 and 826).  They have awesome prices.  I have a membership card if anyone wants to go with me.  You can also get a year-long membership for $45.  I think it is definately worth it!

Hello from Miami!! I am finally here, and my apartment is awesome!! It is so hot here its gross and I bet August will be even hotter!

I am trying to learn my way around, moving across the country and to a new state is so confusing, but I've been here three days and have driven in all directions so I think i'm getting the hang of it...Its just hard to find things like Costco, Target, etc... I am living pretty much in the middle of everything and every person I ask tells me to go to a different location, so its all about finding the closest things to me and the best possible way to go about getting there.

I did the drive to school down US-1 , its a little trafficy but it didnt take me more than 15 minutes. I drove all through Kendall its nice but very congested with traffic. I wonder if there is any back ways to get to school from where I am (near 395) instead of shooting all the way down US-1.

Well, i gotta go I'm leaving tomorrow to go on a cruise to the bahamas for the weekend, I hope the hurricanes and tropical storms dont eat my cruise ship.

hey Linzy..

dunno which way you are going.. but if you're near 395 just hope onto it and take 95 South till it ends (which merges with US1).. thats the way I plan on going.. that way you avoid the bulk of downtown/bayside traffic..

Have fun on your cruise!! I'm going on a cruise to Cozumel on August 1st.. hopefully there will be no hurricanes around then either.. you should be fine..

I move into my apartment at Key Biscayne tomorrow.  I came into town at 3:30 on Wednesday and the traffic on US 1 from 95 was horrible.  It took me 30 minutes to get to my hotel (across the street from the University). 

I don't know of any shortcuts from the downtown area.  If you find one let me know, I will be coming from the same direction (Rickenbacker Causeway). 

I am lucky, I moved here from coastal North Carolina... the weather is pretty much the same so I don't have to acclimate.

what up everyone?  i left miami yesterday having finally secured an apartment in coconut grove.  while i had some trouble to first two days i was there, i eventually had three excellent options.  leasea doesn't start until the 6th of august, but the place is worth it.

linzy, from where you are, i do believe that shooting down 95 is your best bet.  nevertheless, if you are feeling adventurous, you could always cut through the city taking flagler all the way to 57th avenune.  even with modest traffic, however, i believe that that 95 is probably going to be more consistent.

i went to book horizons.  they seem to specialize almost exclusively in law books.  i bought a used civil procedure e and e in mint condition.  i do think the store is superior to the u of m bookstore.

Another question, do we get charged for orientation?  What I mean to say is that since classes start on the 19th, we won't be charged for tuition until that day, right?

I was just curious - because of an emergency I may be forced to back out.

The school can be very flexible.  For example, I'm on a payment plan.  Maybe they can defer your first payment for a month or so.  You just have to ask!

I am hoping that it does not turn out to be the case - but I just want to be sure I have all of my bases covered.  In any case, everyone here has been really cool, so I would really hate to scrap my plans.

Anyhow.. here's a quick update:

Last Saturday I took my GMAT.. just in case I decide to do the JD/MBA program..

I finally got my laptop last night.. I ended up gettign the Toshiba Satellite Tablet PC.. i REALLY REALLY like it!!

My last day at work is this Friday!! Finally!!!

The following week i decided for some reason to do the BarBri LS prep program in Ft. Lauderdale.. probably a complete waste of money, but I'm going to do it anyway.. I figure it cant hurt and may help somewhat.. who knows?

Then I'm off on a cruise to Mexico (or whats left of it from Hurrican Emily.. ) for a week..

Then i'll join you guys for all the pre-orientation events from Aug. 5th on.. probably wont do the club night or the HOPE day of service as I may be outta town again for that last weekend.. but not sure yet..

So i'm excited.. its gonna be a crazy and (hopefully) fun few weeks till school starts..

Hope everyone is settling in alright!!  Hopefully the nasty stormy weather will be gone soon and we'll be back to sunny days..

So last night I was in my new apartment and experienced my first Miami thunderstorm - The lightenining was not as scary as the booming thunder, it was the loudest noise I have ever heard. I'm on the 16th foor of a highrise thougn, I wonder if being higher up makes a difference in how loud the thunder sounds...All i know is that my dog was scared and I could not sleep!
