2 thins:

137 is REALLY far away.  I know you are from Cali so driving isnt a bad to you as it prob is to others, but 137th is REALLY REALLY far.  That being said if i found a nice place there I would rather live there than most of the not-so-nice places nearc campus.  but again that is really super far and would require qite a morning commute.

secondly, a b/g wireless card is more than enough as I cant think of hardly anyone who uses a.  but I spent the extra $25 to get the a/b/g.  im just saying dont worry if yours doesnt have it

I agree with Jeff.  I'm used to long commutes but look at it this way.  The School is at (approximately) 55th st.  I think roughly every 16 blocks makes a mile.  So, it is 5 miles.  Seems easy right?  Well not all the back roads go through.  There are little canals that you end up having to go around.  It really stinks!  On the roads that do go through, there is TONS of traffic.  Anyone from NYC or LA would be fine but for the bulk of us, it is insane traffic.  What kills me is there isn't just traffic from 7-9am and 4-6pm like most places.  While I was driving around, there was traffic around the clock!!  My suggestion: whatever you do, don't get on US 1 (Dixie Hwy).

was looking throuh my mail and it looks like all of my loans have been approved.  miami even sent me the certification letters. 

it looks like the disbursement date is 8/5.  i wonder why this is the case.  classes don't start until the 19th.  so if a person was to pull out before then, i would hope they would still get a full refund - right?

what up ya'll.  i have been on vacation for the past week and haven't gotten a chance to check the board, my mail, or anything else. 

well, i lost my apartment, so i guess i am basically starting at square one, although with a much better sense now of how to find a place.  i may try to make it down there in two weeks -- around the first week of july -- to find something.  real pain in the ass.

on the bright side, however, i finished a civil action and buffalo creek disaster.  they were both easy reads, and they complimented each other well.  i also have getting to maybe, and will probably stop there.

i got the orientation packet in the mail as well.  cool stuff.  i think i am going to try to do the community service day, and i bet that the cruise will be great.  i have a feeling that those weeks are going to be a bit on the crazy side, so everything is tentative.

i have to finish up a few things as well: the immunization crap, apply for a private loan, and -- crap! -- find a damn apartment.

I had my Undergrad send a copy of my immunizations to Miami... I think that is the easiest way to handle it.

How did you end up losing your apartment?  Had you signed a lease?

i didn't sign a lease because i had to apply first.  however, i finally found out that the building was sold to be condominiums.  whatev.

i will check to see if my undergrad has my immunization records.  that would be helpful in a major way if they could take care of it.

NCCane: I'm renting a townhouse, between SW 134th and 137th place off of Killian Parkway. That whole area is gorgeous and really nice and quiet.

And, I'm sorry, but it's only 9 miles to campus, which in my book, is not far at all. My husband and I drove it during rush hour and it looked like maybe a 30-45 minute commute, but our landlord told me about a shortcut to take time off of that commute. It's only 15 minutes without traffic, so I intend to drive around rush hour times.

im sorry, but it is way more than 15 minutes not in rush hour.  I drove the backroutes too and it is still longer.  You are probably used to it coming from cali, but for most anybody else it is REALLY REALLY far (at least in time to get there)

Jeff, my husband set a stop watch. We drove down US1 from UM, got onto Snapper Creek Parkway and got off at Killian and it took 15:16 going the speed limit. (PS: I've noticed cops sitting on Snapper Creek Pkwy several times, so speeding there might not be a good idea) That was around 1 pm on a Friday I think. It actually took us longer to get from our hotel in Biscayne Bay to UM. But enough arguing. It's all a matter of perspective anyway.
