US News and World Report 2006 Law Rankings
« on: April 01, 2005, 09:12:50 AM »
Ok, well I just saw the new 2006 rankings on US News web site, and I have to say, I have lost any remaining semi-believing factors in the school rankings.  I had a budy go to McGeorge School of Law at UofP and they were ranked as a mid tier 3 school.  Suddenly, they break into the top 100 at slot 90!?  Negative ghost rider, that pattern is FULL.  I am pulling the BS card on this one.  IF McGeorge has beaten out other schools which are "better", however they determine better I don't know, then they must have fudged their numbers, or else focused to increase their school "functions" in order to receive a higher ranking.  Either way, US News and World Report sucks!  Why?  There is no way to measure intagibles, therefore they must rely upon subjective markers which are inherently flawed and easily manipulated.

It seems as though there were a lot of changes in the rankings that were unexpected by those on this board.

There were definitely a lot of changes which don't appear to be consistent.

the problem with USNews is that we pay too much attention to the year to year changes that happen.  I'm not a huge fan of USNews myself, but I still think there's real meaning to sustained changes in the ranking, particularly if those changes come in some of the less manipulable factors, i.e. reputation assessments, barr passage rates, etc.

Just to clarify, McGeorge wasnt "mid tier 3".  They dont rank tier 3's in order.  It was in the middle because M is in the middle of the alphabet.

LOL

U of TN jumped from #54 to #52 if I remember correctly. (almost T1 status!) Boston U made a hell of a jump too. Anybody have the 2005 list?
