When do assignments get posted?

How many days/weeks do professors list the first assignments? I have NO desire to not be prepared for the first day of class!

From what I understand, at most schools the assignments are posted the Friday before classes start (ie 3 days before the first day).

I know some of my friends who are in law school this year got their assignments during Orientation.  Some orientations though are just a day or two before classes start, while others (like my school-to-be) are for a whole week before classes start.  So, I guess it depends on the school.
