Currently at T4 with 3.1 GPA with 15 credits/5 classes under the belt. Deans list and honor roll w/1 book award and part of mock trial but havent done competition yet. curve is somewhere between 2.35-2.67 Top 19-20% ranking.
Want to transfer into the ny region but wouldnt mind the chicago area also.

It seems strange that you have a 3.1 and are on dean's list and honor roll.

For sure.

Also, what's a book award? I've never heard of that.

If the curve for his school is a 2.3-2.7 (i.e. C+ curve?), then a 3.0 (B) or better puts him above the curve, and therefore potentially puts him in a position to be on the honors roll (depending on how the rest of the students did in his class).

If he's in the top 20% with a 3.0, then 1Ls probably never get As at his school.

if a 3.1 is top 20%, and top 20% is "deans list" at his/her school, why is that strage?

a book award (or CALI) is an award for the highest grade in one's class
