International students...what are your plans this summer?

I am a first year law student and I am considering the prospects of working this summer in London/ or doing a summer research internship. I have been told that it is not wise for international J.D students to consider summer associate positions with firms because of OPT. Are there internatonal students who have appiled for summer associate positions regardless of the OPT implication? Would appreciate any advice...

there's CPT - curricular practical training. unlike OPT, it's not finite, but it requires you to get a school-approved internship for your summer work. i had no problem getting my law school to set up my summer job as an internship - i just had to write a report at the end of the summer about what i learned, and i had to pay $1300 to get a summer credit.
