Chances at a 1L big law job...

I put up a previous post in the 2L section by accident before I had any grades, but now I have 2. Anyways I have a 4.15 GPA at UT with 2/4 grades reported (I think top 25% is usually around 3.65). I want a big law job in los angeles and am sending out my applications this weekend. Think I have a good shot of landing one?

Yea, its worth a try.  LA is really competitive and Im not too sure how well UT's reputation carries outside the state, but your gpa is decent so far, so its worth a shot.  Worst case, you wasted postage.  Congrats on the great grades, hopefully your last two are similar.

I dont understand why you are sending them out this weekend. I mean, you cant put your GPA with only two grades unless you make it really clear that you are waiting for two more. At that point, they are just going to say "contact us when you have all your grades." I would wait until you have them all and can put your actual class rank on your resume.

From what I can tell, your chances at a 1L biglaw summer gig are slim unless you know somebody, or unless you're a non-white female.  Most 1L jobs at big firms are reserved for "diversity fellowships" or something similarly named.  With your numbers you've got a good shot if you're "diverse," but it's tough to get a slot otherwise.  Good numbers so far, though I agree with the above, I'd wait until all your numbers are posted.

Approximately half of the 1Ls at my school do summer firm jobs at biglaw firms or mid-size firms with close-to-biglaw pay.

Of course. Me personally, I wouldn't waste my time making $10/hour or something when I could travel. for probably what would be my last summer off ever.

Are your interviews through OCI?  Just surprised that you're at a lower-ranked school and have 7 interviews lined up. If not through OCI, how many letters did you send out?
