This is not true.  You will work a ton of hours as a public defender, and make less money than someone with a college degree.  Particularly damaging to your morale is that your college friends will be married, buying new house and new car in a few years while you will still be living in your dingy flat, struggling to make education loan payments.

Whereas at Wachtell, you will make over 300k in your first year, allowing most law student to pay off their entire student loan in a single year if they want.  Not to mention that you can lateral to virtually any inhouse position.

Wachtell gives a 100% bonus. Let's all just pause and absorb that for a second.

It's the number 1 most prestigious firm in the world.

It's also like freaking Skull & Bones, so...that's sketchy. However, it's not like there's a rule you can't leave if you hate it (definitely know people who have done it). They do pay your home phone and internet bills. Yeah I'm a big perks person. Don't they have like, the same number of partners as associates? That's kind of kickass.

How nice of them to pay for 2 services you will rarely or never use since you are eating and sleeping and showering at the office!  And when you do use them, you're probably working from home.

It's not obscene given how much we will have to work to make that money.  I plan to work at Wachtell for about 3 years before going inhouse or teaching.
