Attorney General Honors Program
« on: September 09, 2007, 04:32:03 PM »
Anyone applying?  How competitive is the selection.  I'm at a T1, Top 1/3, clinics, no LR/Journal.  Any shot?

It's pretty competitive.  Which components are you listing on your application?  You'll have a shot, but to be blunt, probably not a great one.  I was a paralegal at DOJ, and before deciding on a school, I sat down with one of the honors program attorney recruiters to discuss my options.  He said top 1/3 was pretty much the cut off at a T1 school I was considering (Iowa), even with previous DOJ employment.  He told me he really liked to see clinics and litigation process/practice courses because DOJ attorneys manage a lot of their own cases.  He also said judicial clerkships are a real plus, and even state appellate clerkships make you eligible to apply for the honors program again (with the clerkship on your resume).  Of course, he was just one recruiter, and opinions vary depending on the recruiter.
