NY biglaw salary raise?

I heard a rumor from a fellow student (meaning the rumor is probably not true) that NY biglaw salaries will raise to $180,000 for the Class of 2009.  Anyone else hear this or is the student just making *&^% up?

I heard it from a student. It makes sense since other markets matched NY salaries. But it doesn't make sense if you watch the news. Credit market is F'ed up right now.

i was told by a hiring coordinator at a DC/Boston firm that NY was going to 190 and they were preparing to match.  It would not surprise me since many DC firms have raised from 145 to 160 lately...

Yeah but the market is horrible right now. Or at least we don't know what is going to happen. The salary gotta go up (hope it does) but I don't have too much expectation.

i've heard 190 / 195.

i've also heard that only a small handful of nyc firms (skadden, cravath, weiss, etc.) are willing / able to do this - which means that the vast majority of will not be affected.

You mean Paul Weiss? If they can do it I am sure any V20 can do it.

Why do 1Ls act like they know everything? They haven't had OCR yet. Jesus Christ. They get their limited info from XOXO and Vault and pretend that they know everything.
